Times passes and generations changes, and the time came when the family’s property passed to the new generation. In that moment, we had to decide between what was more convenient and what we wished. So, with the family’s support, our experience and a lot of enthusiasm, we decided to become viticulturists, following the family tradition.
But reality arrived and shattered our illusions: the sale of grapes hardly covered the property expenses and its maintenance. So, we used our consolidate business experience to decide that the best way was that the fruit of our fields be turned into wine to be sold later by ourselves. Thus was born ANTIGVA Compañía Agroalimentaria Española del Mediterráneo®. Working in collaboration with Ben Sernar, a french oenologist from Ay, at the Epernay commune, in the region of Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine, the cradle of champagne, we started the cava production in Torrelles de Foix.
While we were consolidating our presence in market, a desire arose to produce good wines, great wines. So we learned about the wine industry thanks to Víctor Balbás, owner of winery who always pursues excellence. Moreover, he sold us a property of almost 5 hectares at Ribera del Duero. A property that has near-centenarian vineyards of tempranillo grapes variety. In those days, we had a good relationship with the oenologist Primitivo Mateos who offered to work with us on develop and take care of our project, this new property. He has an extensive experience in winemaking and he’s a big admirer of Jean-Luc Thunevin, the founder of the concept Garage Wine.
As a result of his experience and savoir-faire, our wines ANTIGVA® were born. They have been recognized at the Concourse Mondial de Bruxelles, with two Medailles D’Or for our CRIANZA vintage 2011 and our GRAN RESERVA vintage 2008, and a Medaille D’Argent for our RESERVA vintage 2010.
